كانت الحرب هي المهنة الوحيدة التي يقدرها العرب في ذلك الوقت، وكانوا يعتبرون ما سواها من المهن لا تليق سوى بالموالى والرقيق، لذا كان عموم جيش الولايات الأموية مكون من مقاتلة القبائل العربية وبعض الشرطة، وكان الأمويون ينظرون إلى العرب على أنهم منْ أسسوا الدولة، وأنهم مادة الإسلام وأصحاب الفضل في نشره بين الأمم الأخرى، بعد أن فتحوا بلادهم وصالحوهم، وأطلقوهم من الأسر، لذلك تولى العرب على المناصب الكبرى بالجيش الأموي، وأصبح لهم الدور الكبير في الانتصارات الكبرى التي حققتها الدولة الأموية، نظرًا لحرصهم على إعلاء كلمة الله وما يتميزون به من الروح المعنوية المرتفعة.

Abstract: War was the only profession that the Arabs valued at that time, and they considered all other professions to be worthy of only the loyal and the slave, so the general army of the Umayyad state consisted of fighting Arab tribes and some police, and the Umayyads viewed the Arabs as the ones who established the state, and that they are credited with spreading Islam among other nations, after they conquered their countries and reconciled them, and released them from captivity, so the Arabs assumed major positions in the Umayyad army, and they had a great role in the major victories achieved by the Umayyad state, due to their keenness to exalt the word of God and what they are distinguished by of high morale.
